Major Daniel Leos

Senior Aerospace Science Instructor

Major Dan Leos is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) assigned at Aiea High School Air Force JROTC, Hawaii. In July 1980 he reported to Lackland AFB to begin a career in the US Air Force. Major Leos enlisted and was trained as a Weapons Technician and supported various aircraft to include the Phantom F-4, Thunderbolt A-10 and the Dragon Fly A-37. After graduating from the NCO Academy, Major Leos was accepted to ROTC at the University of Arizona. There he studied Management Information Systems and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. As an officer, he was assigned to the Communications Squadron at Los Angeles AFS as the Chief of Small Computers and Systems. Major Leos has also served with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations as the Chief of Information Technology for the Pacific Region. He has also served as a Senior ROTC instructor at San Diego State University. Finally after 21 years of military service, Major Leos retired at Langley AFB, Virginia. After active duty, Major Leos was hired as the SASI Air Force JROTC at Mesa High School, Mesa AZ. As the SASI, he helped build Mesa JROTC into a strong viable program and has mentored over 1800 cadets during his 10-year tenure at Mesa High. In July of 2014, Major Leos joined the Aiea team as the SASI for the Air Force JROTC program. He is married to his wife Cynthia and they have one daughter, Christina and one son Daniel II. Major Leos enjoys snorkeling, Stand Up Paddle, kayaking and hiking.

CMSgt Al Thompson

Aerospace Science Instructor

Chief Master Sergeant (ret) Al Thompson is an Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor assigned to Aiea High School near Honolulu, Hawaii. His last active duty assignment was Superintendent, 66thAir Base Group, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.  Before arriving here, he taught AFJROTC at Kathleen High School/Central Florida Aerospace Academy for six years where he helped lead and mentor 400 Cadets annually.  Chief Thompson grew up in Columbus, Mississippi and graduated from high school, with honors, in May 1985.  He enlisted in the Air Force in September 1985 as a Police Officer (Security Policeman).  He is a graduate of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Instructor Course, Ground Combat Skills Command Course, and the Anti-terrorism Level II Course.  He has also completed the Air Force’s Academic Instructor School; NCO Academy Instructor Course; and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Security Engineering Course.


Chief Thompson retired in 2011 after serving 26 years in the law enforcement and education & training arenas.  He is a 2008 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  The Chief holds an Assistant Principal certification in the state of Florida. He has Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership.  He also has both a Florida and a Hawaii teaching license in CTE and Marketing, grades 6-12.   Chief Thompson is married to his wife, Chief Master Sergeant (retired) Ginger Thompson and they have one daughter, and one granddaughter.  He enjoys boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.
